THE SCIENCE

Kisspeptin-10 is the minimal kisspeptin sequence with full intrinsic biological activity and has been studied as an important regulator of reproductive hormone signaling. Kisspeptin signaling acts through the kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R) and stimulates gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion, linking kisspeptin activity to the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. KISSPEPTIN RECEPTOR ACTIVITY

Kisspeptin-10 binds to the kisspeptin receptor, also known as KISS1R or GPR54, on GnRH neurons. Activation of this receptor stimulates intracellular signaling involved in GnRH release and subsequent reproductive hormone regulation.

GnRH & GONADOTROPIN SIGNALING

Research has shown that kisspeptin-10 can stimulate GnRH signaling and increase circulating luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Human studies have demonstrated increases in LH and FSH following kisspeptin-10 administration, with responses varying according to sex and reproductive state. PubMed

TESTOSTERONE & REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES

Human research has examined kisspeptin-10 in relation to testosterone and other reproductive hormones. In healthy men, kisspeptin-10 administration has been shown to increase LH, FSH, and testosterone under experimental conditions. Responses in women can vary according to menstrual-cycle phase and prevailing sex-steroid levels.

SEXUAL FUNCTION & BRAIN PROCESSING

Kisspeptin signaling has also been investigated in relation to sexual and emotional processing. Human studies have reported changes in activity within brain regions involved in sexual processing, and clinical research has examined kisspeptin in men and women with reduced sexual desire

HUMAN RESEARCH

  • Kisspeptin-10 has been studied in human volunteers and in experimental clinical research involving reproductive hormones and sexual function. The available studies are generally relatively small and use specific experimental conditions, so findings should be interpreted according to the study population, protocol, route of administration, and endpoints measured.

RESEARCH LIMITATIONS

The available evidence for Kisspeptin-10 includes experimental and human research, but many studies are relatively small and conducted under specific experimental conditions. Findings should be interpreted according to the study population, reproductive status, protocol, route of administration, and specific endpoints measured. Research findings should not automatically be interpreted as establishing safety or effectiveness for general clinical use.
